What Furniture To Put In A Small Bedroom
Your bedroom should be your oasis, a place where you feel relaxed and at home. But not all of us are lucky enough to have a spacious room to relax in every night, and sometimes it seems impossible to fit everything you need into a small bedroom.
Couch Placement Ideas For A Small Living Room
The good news is that with the right room layout, you can add a luxurious feel to even small, city-sized spaces without sacrificing the essentials. To help you, we brought in interior designer Ashley Montgomery to come up with the best designs for your needs.

Design: This layout is perfect for those who prefer a large, comfortable bed. By placing the bed against the back wall or even under the window, you can leave room for the bedroom doors.
Bed: In a small bedroom, you want to make sure your bed isn’t blocking walkways or doors. Therefore, make sure that there is enough space on both sides of the bed for easy entry and exit. When you open the closet doors under your bed, you improve blood circulation.

Extras: Depending on the size of your small bedroom, place a hanger on the wall next to the wardrobe or opt for a bench at the end of the bed. In any case, a king-size bed does not mean that you have to sacrifice storage space.
Make sure you leave enough walking space on both sides of the bed, especially if there are two of you.
Design: A queen-size bed is the perfect size for most small bedrooms: big enough to be luxurious but not overwhelming. This arrangement offers enough space to place the bed parallel to the bedroom.
Bed: In this arrangement, the queen-size bed has two small bedside tables and is covered by a long dresser. Depending on the size of your room, you may need to choose a small dresser or floating shelves as bedside tables.

Extra: Use the back corner for a small reading corner or a small desk for more work space. Add a rug for extra comfort.
Layout: A full bed single bed can be placed against the wall in the top corner to create a more comfortable sleeping space. This allows the dresser or bookshelf to function as a bedside table and provide more storage space.
Bed: If you have space, you can make a full-fledged bed float. Pushing the bed against the wall is the best way to use the space for one person. Not only does this allow for an entry point, but also a more functional wall area for storage or desk space.
Extra: The wall next to the bed can be used for a desk and a small reading corner or more storage space in the form of a small closet.

Layout: Again, this layout works well for a full bed, but is perfect for anyone who needs extra storage, especially if you have a lot of small closets.
Bed: Place it on the wall directly opposite the room and choose a storage bench under the bed. This creates an entire wall for a tall workbench, bookshelf or desk.
Extra: A round bedside table is a great way to break up the space and soften the edges of any furniture in this arrangement. “Texture and layering always help make a bedroom feel comfortable,” says Montgomery. “We like to carpet the bedrooms, use simple sisal to ground the space, and layer it so your feet hit the floor first when you get out of bed.”
Layout: In a guest room or children’s room, two single beds make for a cozy little bedroom. In this arrangement, two beds face each other with a desk in between.

Bed: Place each single bed against the same wall, ideally the widest one in your room. Place a desk or dresser in between, leaving only one side open.
Extras: A rug between the beds offers additional space, perfect for a child’s room. According to Montgomery, “The most important thing about furnishing a room with two single beds is not to mix up the room with other furniture.” He says, “You don’t want to have two nightstands for each bed—it just looks like a bunch of furniture.”
Design: This double bed configuration is a little different from the previous one, offering more storage space instead of a desk.
Bed: Two single beds should be side by side with a night bed in between. A long chest of drawers can be placed on the wall directly opposite the beds and each bed also has a bench at the end for extra storage.

Extra: A side panel is a great way to break up this space and add interest.
Floor Plan: Perfect for a college student, this floor plan features a loft bed above a desk for a loft-like look. This not only allows for additional floor space, but also leaves free wall space for more storage or a small reading nook.
Bed: Although this arrangement is for a single bed, you can opt for a full loft bed which offers more desk space. Move the bed to the other side of the room for better air circulation.
Extra: Place a side chair next to the loft bed to store clothes and add structure and softness to the room.

A wall corner with a small shelf next to the bed is a good alternative to a regular bedside table.

Even the smallest bedroom has room for a bed. Although sometimes you want to make your bed invisible (or build a Murphy bed that folds against the wall), this only gives you floor space and no storage space.
Because you need to sleep, you can’t just replace your mattress with a storage unit. But you can use all the space above, under and around your bed.
For under-bed storage, choose a bed frame with built-in drawers. If your bedroom is so small that you don’t have room for anything other than a bed, look for a cabinet with lots of drawers. Barstow’s six-drawer storage bed, for example, offers enough space to replace your toiletries.
If you already have a bed frame that doesn’t have built-in drawers, you can still use the space under your bed for storage. One of our favorite organization ideas is to slide storage boxes under your bed (or under any piece of furniture!).
Small Bedroom Ideas To Make The Most Of Your Limited Space
If you have a bed skirt, save money and buy the cheapest plastic storage bins you can find. Nobody can see them behind the skirt, so consider them your little storage secret. If you have a platform bed, look for decorative baskets or rustic wooden crates so your storage solution doesn’t clash with your interior design.
If the storage space under the bed is not enough to store your belongings, create additional space at the head of your bed. Look for a headboard with shelves and drawers, like the Phoenix 10-Drawer Bed. It’s a stylish option and the shelves give you more flexibility – you can display books and baskets, or add baskets for more hidden storage.
Here’s one of the most effective bedroom storage ideas: place bookshelves everywhere. This includes the headboard of your bed.
Even if your bookshelf blocks the bottom shelves, you still have more storage space than other pieces of furniture.
