Depending on the cause, it may not be a long-term problem. But if you feel dizzy or very faint, talk to your doctor as soon as possible.

“The feeling of passing out is called presyncope,” says Leah F., a nurse practitioner at ConvenientCare in Wilkes-Barre. Crispell, MD. “This happens even momentarily when the brain doesn’t get enough blood, oxygen or glucose to function properly.”

People who experience presyncope tend to brush it off and go about their day. “It’s not a good idea because some causes can be serious. It’s always best to get a diagnosis from a doctor,” says Crispell. Dizziness, in particular, can be a symptom of an underlying medical condition.

Also known as postural hypotension, this is lightheadedness that sometimes occurs when you stand up. It can happen to anyone, and it happens more often if you take certain medications and get older.

Dizziness & Giddiness

This condition (also known as an abnormal heart rate) occurs when the heart beats too fast, too slowly, or causes a sudden decrease in blood flow to the brain. Any of these can make you faint.

Prescription medications for pain, heart conditions, and high blood pressure can affect your circulatory system and, you guessed it, feel like a headache. If this happens more often, talk to your doctor about adjusting your medication.

Not drinking enough fluids can cause nausea, weakness, dizziness, low blood pressure and fainting. The good news: rehydration can quickly relieve symptoms.

Anemia is when the blood lacks healthy red blood cells, or hemoglobin, which carries oxygen to the organs, including the brain. One symptom of anemia is fatigue, but it can also make you feel tired and pale.

Here’s Why You Feel Dizzy When You Stand Up

This neurological disorder disrupts the electrical signals between the brain and the heart, blood vessels and sweat glands. The feeling of tiredness comes from its effect on heart rate and blood pressure.

Have you ever had an anxiety attack? You may be breathing too fast and too deeply, both of which can cause headaches and dizziness.

When you get that dizzy feeling, lie down or lie down and put your head between your knees.

“The most important thing you can do if you’re feeling overwhelmed is to get to a safe place,” says Crispell. “By doing this, you can avoid falling on your head if you lose consciousness.”

Dehydration, side effects of medications, sudden drop in blood pressure, hypoglycemia, and heart disease or stroke can all be causes of headaches.

Feeling tired, dizzy or slightly sleepy is a common complaint among adults. Although this is not usually caused by something life-threatening, it can be, so you should be careful.

“Don’t ignore it,” says Dr. Shame Grossman, MD, professor of emergency medicine at Harvard Medical School.

Do You Often Feel Dizzy Around The Eyes? Don’t Underestimate, This Could Be The Cause!

If you feel dizzy and/or tired, Dr. Grossman recommends drinking water or orange juice before bed. If symptoms last longer than 15 minutes, it’s time to seek medical help in an urgent or urgent care setting, he says. Even if the symptoms are brief and you think you know the cause, report the dizziness to your doctor.

If you’re overheated, not eating or drinking enough, or sick, you can become dehydrated. Without enough fluids, blood volume drops, which lowers blood pressure and prevents the brain from getting enough blood, leading to headaches. “A glass of water may be enough to make you feel better, but if you haven’t eaten or drunk much in a few days, it will take longer for your body to rehydrate,” says Dr. Grossman. You may need an intravenous infusion of fluids. A doctor can check if you need electrolytes such as potassium or salt.

Medicines can sometimes make you tired, especially if they lower your blood pressure or make you urinate more. “If they work too well, they can lower your blood pressure too much and make you pass out. Diuretics are known for this,” says Dr. Grossman. The solution may be as simple as adjusting the dose or trying a different medication.

The autonomic nervous system helps the body control changes in blood pressure when we are standing. As we age, this system malfunctions, causing a temporary drop in blood pressure when we stand, known as orthostatic hypotension, which causes dizziness. It can be a chronic problem, but there are medications to treat it, such as midodrine (Promatin) and fludrocortisone (Florinif), so it’s worth going to the doctor.

Why Do I Feel Dizzy?

Dr. Grossman says, “When you don’t have enough blood sugar, every system in your body, including your brain, uses as little energy as possible, which makes you dizzy or confused.” You can drink juice to ease your symptoms, but it’s best to check your blood sugar, especially if you need more glucose (sugar) intravenously or in tablet form.

More seriously, headaches can be a sign of a heart attack or stroke. Other symptoms of a heart attack are usually accompanied by headache, chest pain, shortness of breath, nausea, arm pain, back pain or jaw pain. Symptoms of a heart attack include sudden headache, numbness, weakness, changes in vision, trouble walking, or trouble speaking. “But in adults, a headache may be the only symptom of a heart attack or stroke, especially if it doesn’t go away,” says Dr. Grossman. In this case, every second counts, so get to the emergency room for treatment.

“Feeling faint or dizzy?” Your doctor may ask. Although it’s often difficult to tell the difference, your answer can have a big impact on how the doctor moves forward with a diagnosis. Dizziness is not the same as vertigo, also known as vertigo, which refers to the feeling that you are spinning.

Common causes of headaches include the side effects of medications; inner ear infections or other disorders; Tumors Tumors in the back of the brain; Ménière’s disease, which affects the nerves important for balance and hearing; Vertigo in the benign paroxysmal phase, when the small crystals of the inner ear are displaced and move inside the auditory canal; and Parkinson’s disease.

Treating the underlying condition can relieve headaches. But Dr. Grossman warns not to forget about the headache. “Vertigo can lead to falls and injuries. It’s a real problem, especially in adults, and in many cases it’s preventable,” he says.
