It’s very easy for a spare room to quickly become a dumping ground for all your random stuff. But if you don’t need a full-time home office (or guest room or recreation area), the key is to create a space that can easily be adapted from one function to another. Our space makes better use of its sloped ceiling, but you can apply our tips to any room shape.

Turn the sofa bed into a bed, dress it with bed linen and move the coffee table into bedside table mode. Use the sloping ceiling by hanging a minimalist rod on stylish leather straps to create a place to hang clothes and add a few hooks for extra storage space.

Even if you don’t need an entire dedicated home office, you can definitely benefit from a place set up for paying bills or doing paperwork. Save space by placing a small table directly behind the sofa and keep it clutter-free by keeping most of your essentials in a locked cabinet. If a desk isn’t available and you want to sit on the couch, move the reading lamp around you for more direct reading light.
