Numerous studies on intermittent fasting have shown that overnight fasting is indeed associated with weight loss, but more importantly, it is also associated with improved metabolism. People who eat breakfast regularly have a more precise day schedule (no night shifts), higher socioeconomic status (can’t afford breakfast), or tend to be more consistent than those who don’t eat breakfast. It is possible that you will get used to it. All of these are more important variables associated with body weight in IE, but none of them have been identified in observational studies.
So how can we better study the impact of breakfast (or skipping it) on body weight? Randomized controlled trials (RCTs), in which participants are equally divided into breakfast and non-breakfast groups, can be used to measure specific outcomes such as daily calorie intake and body weight. RCTs are experiments that allow you to draw conclusions with more confidence because you can control confounding variables. (However, RCTs may have other problems, which we will see later.)
Researchers in Melbourne, Australia examined and combined results from several RCTs on breakfast, weight, and/or total daily energy intake. They found a total of 13 studies that met the criteria. The content and timing of breakfast had to be defined and (for ease of comparison) applied in high-income countries.
Eating Breakfast Won’t Help You Lose Weight, But Skipping It Might Not Either
The authors note that RCTs are erroneous. The participants knew which experimental group they belonged to. The study used different groups (university students, hospital staff and the general public). Showed a variety of products (crispy rice, wheat flakes, oatmeal). The observation period varied widely. An RCT comparing a high-protein, high-fiber breakfast with an empty breakfast has not yet been conducted.
However, the authors ultimately conclude: “Since 1917, the media has suggested that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but there is no evidence to support breakfast consumption as a weight loss strategy in overweight adults. overweight or obese.
That being said, if you love breakfast, and if you love breakfast, enjoy it. If you have medical metabolic problems, consider drinking water, tea, or coffee for breakfast and lunch.
