Small Yet Super Cozy Living Room Designs
Most train apartments have a windowless central room that connects the front and back rooms and leans against them for natural light. So if you want to create different areas or more privacy, consider a solution that does not have the additional problem of blocking light and flow. Here, Shari Francis did just that with cool glass rain doors. They don’t block light like a real door and they certainly aren’t soundproof, but they will add privacy.
In this open kitchen with main living room and dining room, Heidi Caillier separated the different areas that visually run together and do not take up too much space. He did not sacrifice the dining table, but made it smaller so that it does not interfere with the living space.
Simplicity in design and color scheme can often be the best in small spaces, as Sean Henderson tried in this small New York bathroom. This formula (beautiful shelves, furniture, and simple, high-end accessories) is an easy win in rentals, too. Back lines that match the hardware and other surfaces will leave an impression. Oh, and a good room spray is always a plus.
If you do not want to install sliding doors or this is not possible in your apartment, consider installing from wall to wall and then hang a partition curtain, as above on ETC.etera. Sharing living and sleeping spaces in a studio is the perfect way to make yourself feel at home. Get creative with room dividers, choose a screen, bench, or even a tall bookshelf.
Genius Apartment Decorating Ideas Made For Renters
A small apartment can be done with a few more decorative items. This is especially useful in small doors. Here, Tamsin Johnson Interiors added two sculptural hooks for purses and wallets, a soft and decorative basket for umbrellas, a gorgeous accent chair for shoe storage, and a mirror that adorns the wall for a last-minute touch.
In this Chicago apartment, designer and interior designer Devin Kirk built a home bar in a small space. I painted it Hague Blue with Farrow & Ball and paired it with fabric skirting and wallpaper on the back wall for added protection. Entertaining and preparing your space is a simple way to make your apartment look bigger.

The biggest mistake you can make when buying your first apartment is not thinking about how you want to live there. Do you like to cook and eat? A large dining table that doubles as a work space during the day may be your best option.
